The Vans Warped Tour is celebrating 20 years in summer 2014 which includes a stop at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center. First debuting in 1994, Vans Warped Tour features more than 100 bands, including Less Than Jake, Falling in Reverse and We The Kings.

The tour first began as “one last hoorah” for founder Kevin Lyman. Before setting off to find a “real job,” he wanted one last punk-rock summer. He gathered Sublime, L7 and No Doubt and hit the road. After the success of the tour, Lyman realized a “real job” wasn’t in his future. Vans jumped on board and bands like NOFX and Pennywise joined in on the tour as well.

Punk has been a mainstay in the Vans Warped Tour, but the music has changed over the last two decades. Festival goers will hear pop-punk, metal, acoustic and even hip hop acts. The tour has long been a place where up-and-coming bands can gain exposure and grow their fan base; 2014’s tour is no exception.

Some of the bands on the Vans Warped Tour lineup include:

  • Air Dubai
  • Bowling for Soup
  • Echosmith
  • Dangerkids
  • Crown the Empire
  • Mayday Parade
  • K.Flay
  • Issues
  • Less Than Jake
  • Aaron West and The Roaring 20s
  • 3OH!3
  • For Today
  • Blackbird

The Vans Warped Tour kicked off in April in Los Angeles and will come to a close on August 3 in Denver, CO.

There are sure to be plenty of surprises during the summer tour. To celebrate 20 years, Linkin Park made a surprise performance during the Ventura, CA stop on June 22. With plenty of dates to go, there are sure to be many more surprises for fans who attend.

Of course, the Warped Tour is more than just music. Fans will enjoy an all-day extravaganza complete with slip-and-slides, snow cone machines, misting stations, body paint tents and even free food. The festival-like tour creates a new experience every year. Fans can expect plenty of mosh pits and crowd surfing opportunities.
